This painting I’m currently wrestling with presented itself to me on Saturday when I was least expecting it. During the many uninspiring rain showers we stopped for coffee here. Because of the rain it was full of people doing exactly as we were, so no photo’s I’m afraid.
In the shop I had the excitement of meeting this lady (who must count as kind of famous) AND she spoke to me! Woo hoo! Luckily I have read some of her books because I was put on the spot by being asked if I’d buy any if they were stocked in the shop. Anyway I digress…
Sitting in a rain soaked bucket were these beauties which I bought for my Mum. However on the way home a plan hatched itself. In my hand were the lupins, in the boot of the car was a piece of watercolour board I’d bought to try out.
So I set up ‘studio’ at my Mum and dad’s and drew the lupins. This involved much note taking about colours and many close-up photo’s to refer to later when I paint in the blooms. It came home looking a lot like a paint by numbers kit. And I think that’s what’s thrown me off stride – this time it’s all back to front and upside down! Usually I have a lovely photograph of a still life set up to herald in the beginning of a new piece but here is the empty vase looking a little lonesome and the background being filled in around the drawing.
It might have my head spinning a little but a new challenge is a good thing n’est pas?
