I discovered this artist for the first time on our recent trip to Paris. We decided before-hand that the Louvre would be just too much walking and have busy crowds but we did want to see some art while we were in France.
Marie Laurencin - Portrait de Madame Paul Guillaume 1924
We opted for the  Musee Orangerie which houses the personal collection of the art dealer Paul Guillaume who championed the fledgling careers of the likes of Rousseau, Picasso, Renoir and Modigliani. It is small and has the headliners you’d expect to see in Paris. He had also bought these two works by Marie Laurencin who was part of his personal social circle and a gifted artist and theatre designer herself.

 I love the colour palettes, especially the top one which is unusual for its pastels. They are very haunting and delicate and remind me a little of Modigliani’s portraits. I couldn’t find out very much out the artist. There is a Wikipedia page here which has some more history or look here to see more images of her beautiful work.
